Magdalena Eriksson hero for Sweden in the Olympic qualifier

Zecira Musovic was back between the posts and Caroline Seger was back from the start again. Despite that, Sweden did not succeed in anything remarkable in the first half. Switzerland was clearly the better team. They created several dangerous chances. Swiss Alayah Pilgrim had a double chance which was first saved by Musovic and then her second finish was blocked by Seger.

– It looked very dangerous, says expert Daniel Nannskog in SVT.

A few minutes later, just before the half-time break, Asllani was sent off. She took care of the free kick herself when she tipped Magdalena Eriksson who calmly headed in the lead goal.

“Eleven out of ten”
Caroline Seger celebrates the goal.

– It’s eleven out of ten, she tells Expressen.

Magdalena Eriksson then herself reacts to the tribute.

– Oh oh oh! I thank and accept, she says and continues.

– I have to see it again to know exactly how good it was. It was very neat, but it’s not just about me. It’s also about “Kosse’s” ball that she hits, it’s perfect.

At the same time, a match was played in Sweden’s group between Spain and Italy. It looked like a draw for a long time but Spain took the lead late in the match and won 1-0.

The Olympic dream lives on
Sweden was better in the second half and controlled the match in a completely different way than in the first. The Swiss’ stamina seemed to be running out and Sweden played their way to several chances and probably should have scored more goals.

Sofia Jakobsson was also back in the starting eleven, she was replaced and sat on the bench with a bandaged foot during the end of the match.

There were no more goals at Gamla Ullevi. Sweden had much better control of Switzerland in the second half and kept the lead. The match ended 1-0 and it was Magdalena Eriksson’s goal that was decisive.

– We are so effective on set because they beat them so damn well, then it is difficult to defend and easy for us. Very important three points today, says Magdalena Eriksson after the match.

Blue and yellow were under pressure – then the defense general stepped forward.

Magdalena Eriksson became a great hero in the Olympic qualifiers and is celebrated afterwards.

– The goal is eleven out of ten, says Caroline Seger.
