Sirius saved points against Hammarby

Nightmare ending for Hammarby on Tele 2.

Sirius saved a point – after a goal in the 95th minute.

It was a young attack from Hammarby who lined up at the Tele 2 arena. Deniz Gül, 19, made his Allsvenskan debut most recently in the derby against Djurgården and stood in the evening for his first game from the start. Next to him he had the same age Viktor Djukanovic and 18-year-old Montader Madjed.

The opposition was an in-form Sirius who had won all of the last five matches. Sirius was long involved in the Allsvenskan bottom battle, but with the Brommapojkarna’s loss against Djurgården on Sunday, the contract was secured for the Uppsala club.

It was the home team that started the fastest and in minute 26 Deniz Gül stood for what looked to be his goal in the Hammarby shirt. Nahir Besara hit a free kick that Gül’s forehead reached the top of but the linesman flagged for offside and the goal was ruled out.

But Hammarby did not have to go into the half-time break goalless.

Besara scored a dream goal
With six minutes left in the first half, Djukanovic was pulled down just outside the penalty area. Besara stepped forward for another free kick but this time straight on goal. The ball skilfully went into the far crossbar and was completely unreachable for Sirius goalkeeper David Mitov Nilsson.

– I felt that he would find it difficult to take it and I poked it well. It fit perfectly, Besara said during the Discovery+ broadcast.

Hammarby had by far the most possession in the first half, but Sirius became more and more dangerous with their counterattacking game.

Sirius equalized in stoppage time
Sirius didn’t have the margins on his side for a start. At the start of the second half, they had a shot on the post. Soon after, they were awarded a penalty kick after Wessam Abou Ali went down after a break by Hammarby goalkeeper Oliver Dovin.

The referee initially pointed to the penalty spot but then withdrew the ruling after discussing with the linesman.

– Dovin absolutely puts himself in the shit in that situation, but he takes the ball away. That should absolutely not be a punishment, said expert commentator Nordin Gerzic.

An hour into the match, Besara skilfully played the ball forward to Djukanovic, who fired it into the goal. The minutes went by and it felt increasingly difficult for Sirius to get points.

But in the extra time everything turned around.

Sirius pressed for the reduction and in the 92nd minute of the match André Alsanati scored 2–1 and three minutes later Sirius shocked the home team when they equalized through Henrik Castegren.

After a dramatic finish, the final score of the match was 2-2.

The shared point means that Sirius remains in tenth place in the table. Hammarby in turn takes a step up, and lands in sixth place with two Allsvenskan rounds remaining.
